Shonen Jump’s 6 Strongest New Manga Heroes, Ranked & Explained - CBR - Comic Book Resources

dokdokder.blogspot.com

Over the decades, the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump have been graced by some of manga/anime's most powerful protagonists of all time. This includes the character who practically invented the term "over-powered," Dragon Ball's Goku, an alien warrior with interchangeable hair color designed to break the arbitrary power levels creator Akira Toriyama introduced to his series. (Though the Saiyan may well meet his match if the world-famous franchise ever crossed over with One-Punch Man.)

More recently, the leading heroes of My Hero AcademiaDemon Slayer and Black Clover are keeping Jump's unbeatable roster topped up. Hot on their heels, though, is an even fresher generation of powerhouses that have yet to receive popularity-cementing anime adaptations. Here are six of the most notable, in order of least to most powerful.

YOR & LLOYD BRIAR

Spy x Family is an espionage-themed romp through a fictionalized version of Cold War Berlin. But though there are plenty of laugh-out-loud gags and heartwarming moments between its central, unconventional family, make no mistake: there's nothing funny about Lloyd and Yor Briar, aka Twilight and Thorn Princess, when they're in their element.

Though the pair are, despite living under one roof, comedically unaware of their secret occupations -- Lloyd, a super spy, and Yor, a super-assassin -- there's little that separates them in terms of skill level. Yor is the more physically capable of the two, with iron-strong legs that can tear through the roof of a car as if it were made of paper. Lloyd, meanwhile, is a master of disguise, and his stealth and speed are almost inhuman. If the duo ever did team-up, they'd be tough to beat.

MASH VANDEAD

In a world where magic is the norm, Mashle: Magic and Muscle's Mash Vanguard sticks out like a non-magical sore thumb. So do his very well-defined muscles, which somehow enable him to deflect spells so competently that he's able to attend a magic academy and hold his own against its most promising young witches and wizards.

In what's transparently a biting Harry Potter parody, Mash can bat away an incantation with a mere slap of his hand; take off into the air on a broomstick by simply kicking his legs really fast and launch himself at opponents (his "Big Bang Dash") faster than they can lift a wand. While he's not the strongest on this list, there's certainly something to be said for possessing magic-defying abs.

MANASUFA RUSTASIA

Guardian of the Witch

Guardian of the Witch puts a different spin on classic stories of magic and chivalry -- turning witches into living weapons and knights into their trusty protectors. In the City-State of Berne, special girls like Manasufa aren't born but created: given their power through the implantation of a Seed of Evil at the age of 12.

Fafuna, the young Guardian assigned to be Manasufa's personal bodyguard, longs for a witch-free world in which ordinary people can defend themselves. Not only has he become pretty handy with a sword as a result but, with Manasufa's aid, the weapon gains added firepower. But this is mere child's play compared to Manasufa at her full might. The witch can flatten an entire army just by pointing at it. The big drawback, however, is that she needs to constantly refuel; plus, the very source of her power is slowly poisoning her with Evil.

DENJI

One of Jump's most promising up-and-comers, Chainsaw Man takes the familiar structure of a young protagonist climbing their way toward a singular goal and injects with guts, gore and plenty of surrealism. At its heart is Denji: once a deadbeat, homeless kid with only a pet Devil dog for company, Denji is murdered and then reborn when his companion does a very Good Boy thing.

Their live-saving hybridization turns him into one of the most powerful Devil Hunters around, capable of withstanding the brutal, hungry assault of many a larger and supposedly stronger creature than himself. Even Denji's near-fatal flaw -- the pints of blood his chainsaw transformation wastes -- has been overcome in some creatively gruesome ways. Like any good shonen hero, Denji's willpower alone can knock down practically any obstacle.

YUJI ITADORI

With an anime adaptation on the way this October, Jujutsu Kaisen looks destined to become an even bigger hit than it currently is. Strong sales of the manga in Japan can be attributed to the series slotting comfortably into the popular supernatural battle subgenre, with its star, Yuji, hailing from the shonen stable of traditionally strong-willed Chosen Ones.

In Yuji's case, he chose his own path when he swallowed the finger of one of the world's most dominant Curses, Sakuna, in order to protect his peers. This makes him both a valuable asset to the Curse-fighting sorcerers he joins the ranks of and a liability because accessing Sakuna's incredible power means giving the indestructible being control. Yuji's efforts to keep the beast on a leash -- and the Double-Faced Specter's unrestored body -- are the only things holding him back from topping this list.

UNLUCK FUUKO

Undead Unluck features the unlikely pairing of an unkillable man, Undead Andy, and a very unlucky young woman, Unluck Fuuko. Like a twisted rom-com, the pair are polar opposites who happen to be missing the very thing the other has, making for a dysfunctional but inseparable partnership. In Andy's case, decades of never finding the sweet release of death have made him pretty eccentric. In Fuuko's case, years spent never knowing the loving touch of another person without her bad luck fatally punishing them has made her pretty lonely.

You'd think that Andy, a master swordsman who can survive being crushed by a meteorite, would be the MVP of the pair but it's actually Fuuko -- the one who's ability attracted the meteorite -- that takes the title. Why? Pure, untapped potential. As Andy keeps (sleazily) reminding her -- if a peck on the cheek can flatten an entire apartment block, imagine what the most intimate contact can achieve?
