Wildly Popular Black Clover Manga Leaves Weekly Shōnen Jump - CBR - Comic Book Resources

Soon readers of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump will no longer get to check out new chapters of Yūki Tabata's Black Clover.

According to HITC, the popular manga series will leave the well-known shōnen magazine after the publication of Chapter 368, which has leaked online. Going forward, Black Clover will be serialized in Jump Giga, Weekly Shōnen Jump's sister publication. This move greatly impacts how many new chapters of Black Clover will debut each year; while Weekly Shōnen Jump drops issues on a weekly basis, Jump Giga uses a quarterly release schedule, meaning there is a three-month break between issues.

Black Clover made its premiere in February 2015 and so far, Tabata's fantasy adventure series has produced 35 volumes worth of content so far. Set in a world where magical talents are the norm, the story focuses on a young boy named Asta. Despite seemingly being born without any inherent arcane potential, Asta dreams of becoming the next Wizard King and sets off on a journey to pursue his ultimate goal.

Tabata's series was first adapted into an OVA (original video animation) by studio Xebec Zwei (Space Battleship Yamato 2202); however, Pierrot, the award-winning studio behind classics like Bleach, Naruto and Saiyuki, produced a full anime based on Black Clover, which initially aired for 170 episodes between October 2017 and March 2021. The show was fairly well received by fans and critics; it was even nominated in the Best Fight Scene and Best Continuing Series categories at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2019.

The Black Clover Franchise Expands

The Black Clover anime features a cast of prominent and experienced actors with Gakuto Kajiwara, who notably voices Hitohito Tadano in Komi Can't Communicate and Shinra Kusakabe in Fire Force, bringing Asta to life. Other members of the cast include Nobunaga Shimazaki (The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window) as Yuno Grinberryall, Kana Yūki (Azur Lane) as Noelle Silva and Nobuhiko Okamoto (My Hero Academia) as Liebe.

Pierrot's tie-in movie for the franchise, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, debuted earlier this year in June; the plot sees Asta and Yuno team up to defeat a powerful enemy and revive the Wizard Kings of the past. During its first week on Netflix, Sword of the Wizard King was the second most-watched non-English film on the platform. Multiple voice actors from the anime reprised their roles for the movie.

Tabta's Black Clover manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media, and the anime adaptation by Pierrot is available on Crunchyroll.
