Joker Raises a Baby Batman in New Manga (Yes, Really) - Screen Rant

dokdokder.blogspot.com

A new manga series features the Joker raising a baby Batman to become the Caped Crusader once more. Seriously. There is a manga that has the Joker experiencing fatherhood with a baby Batman. The series is titled One Operation JOKER and the first trade paperback is out right now in Japan. It is an official collaboration between DC Comics and Kodansha.

Kodansha is Japan's largest publishing company, well-known for series such as Attack on Titan and Fairy Tail. They publish numerous manga magazines, including the Morning Magazine, which has been serializing One Operation Joker since its sixth issue released on January 7th, 2021. Recently, the 14th issue of their Evening Magazine saw the launch of another DC and Kodansha collaboration called Superman VS Meshi, which will see Superman flying to different Japanese restaurants and trying different foods.

The official Batman Twitter account shared a cover image of the wonderfully bizarre manga One Operation JOKER. Since it has been serialized in Kodansha’s Morning Magazine, this marks the first time it has been collected in its first trade paperback for fans to enjoy in Japan. The book is by Keisuke Goto and Satoshi Miyagawa. This is also not even the first Batman-related manga released by the company, which also came out with Batman Justice Buster last year.

Considering Batman has fought crime before as a baby (specifically as Bat-Baby starting in Batman #147), there is already a precedent for Batman to start his crime-fighting at a young age, depending on how Joker raises him. The manga is supposed to be a comedy focused on childcare, but it's impressive how accurate Joker's baby hold is on the cover, showing him supporting Batman's head like a good Clown Prince of Crime turned father should. The manga is also being serialized in a seinen magazine, meaning it's geared toward young men, so it will likely be a much more light-hearted approach to one of Batman's greatest villains.

The fact that this is an official story signed off on by DC (although not part of the main continuity/universe, sadly) is fantastic. It also feels weirdly fitting that the Joker would raise Batman as a baby if he were presented with the opportunity to do so. Just look at what he did when he could mold Tim Drake's young adult mind in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. It would be fascinating to see if the manga continues long enough to the point that fans will get to see Joker raising not just baby Bruce Wayne but also a young adult, teenage, and finally adult Batman. Will he raise him to be a type of Bat-Joker, stealing him away from heroism and setting him up for the path of villainy? The possibilities are endless surrounding this one wonky idea.
