The upcoming title in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, had already grabbed eyeballs with its announcement trailer. It is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and Ubisoft is leaving no stone unturned in terms of promotional content. The ‘Echoes of Valhalla’, the podcast that narrates the history behind the game, has become a huge hit already on Spotify. And now, the game has collaborated with Japanese Manga author Makoto Yukimura.

The reason for this collaboration is Yukimura’s popular manga Vinland Saga, which narrates the story of the Scandinavian invasion and Viking settlers, like the upcoming installment in the Assassin’s Creed series. Vinland Saga has its own huge fanbase and the circulation of this manga has already crossed 5.5 million.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla gets a Japanese Connection
As part of this collaboration, Yukimura has drawn a one-shot short story for the game, which Ubisoft will post on the AC: Valhalla official website. This will also be released in the October 24 issue of Monthly Afternoon, the magazine in which the Vinland Saga is serialized.
Yukimura has written this short as a part of the ongoing Vinland Saga manga. The translated versions will soon be available, including the one in English. However, you can still admire the artwork here. Yukimura’s rather old school art style brings out the best in Vinland Saga, and he has done utmost justice to the Valhalla reference in this one-shot. Moreover, fans are already loving his take on Eivor.
In addition to this, Yukimura will also talk in detail about this collaboration on the Ubiday 2020 online event. Ubisoft’s Japanese front organizes this yearly event/party, and Yukimura will be speaking all about the collaboration during the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla x Game Sanpo section.
AC: Valhalla is not the only upcoming title of 2020 with a Japanese connection. An anime based in the same world as Cyberpunk 2077, known as “Cyberpunk Edgerunners“, is also in production. Maybe developers figured that involving two fandoms with one title will be a great way to promote the title. So far, it seems to be a good move that is giving rise to some great and interesting content.
