The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Netflix is producing a live-action TV adaptation of Homura Kawamoto and Toru Naomura’s Kakegurui manga series titled BET, which is led by showrunner Simon Barry (Warrior Nun) and Boat Rocker Media. The series is now in production in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The ensemble cast for BET features the following actors cast in undisclosed roles:

- • Ryan Sutherland
The 10-episode series is inspired by the Kakegurui anime and manga series. It is executive produced by Barry, Jeff F. King, David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Jon Rutherford, and Nick Nantell.
BET will follow the story of a mysterious transfer student from Japan named Yumeko, whose arrival instantly upsets the boarding school’s hierarchy, status quo, and underground gambling scene. She possesses a dark secret and ruthless gambling prowess that puts her into conflict with the powerful Student Council.
The original Kakegurui manga series by Kawamoto and Naomura began serialization in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine on March 22, 2014. Seventeen tankobon volumes have been released as of July 2023. A spinoff prequel manga titled Kakegurui Twin illustrated by Kei Saiki was released in 2015 and ended in 2023. Yen Press releases the main manga in English as Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler -, as well as the prequel spinoff.
The manga inspired two TV anime seasons that aired in 2017 and 2019 respectively. It also inspired a 2018 live-action Japanese TV drama that aired for two seasons, two Japanese live-action films, light novels, and a now defunct mobile game that launched in 2017.
Yen Press describes the story of the original Kakegurui manga as:
