CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Next year Ohio’s Congressional districts will be redrawn. The 4th needs to be reshaped not to look like Daffy Duck, even though that accurately represents its Rep. Jim Jordan. And the 16th shouldn’t look like Dastardly Donald, but it will if Trump toady Max Miller is elected, which he has a better chance of now that Rep. Anthony Gonzalez won’t seek re-election.
After putting the Country first with his vote to Impeach insurrection instigator Trump, 16th District Rep. Anthony Gonzalez is putting his family first, announcing he will not be seeking re-election in order to protect them from the Trump cancer still poisoning the country and The Party of Lincoln.
The New York Times reports that after his vote to impeach, Rep Gonzalez was “deluged with threats and feared for the safety of his wife and children.”
Those threats were lowlighted when Rep. Gonzalez and his family were unexpectedly greeted at the airport by police officers needed to provide security after the impeachment vote.
“That’s one of those moments where you say, ‘Is this really what I want for my family when they travel, to have my wife and kids escorted through the airport?’
Rep. Gonzalez announced late Thursday the answer to that question was NO!
Since the airport moment, a Congressional recommended security consultant has also evaluated the Gonzalez home in Rocky River.
Following his vote to impeach, the Ohio Republican Party called on Gonzalez to resign and Trump targeted him by having his toady/aide Max Miller primary Gonzalez.
Trump and Miller labeled Gonzalez a RINO even though Gonzalez had voted in sync with Trump’s agenda 85.7% of the time, according to analysis by FiveThirtyEight. He is in fact a true Conservative Republican.
While Gonzalez was confident he could come out on top in “a brutally hard primary” against Miller, it would just be a return to the Trump cancerous cess pool that the Republican caucus in Congress still is.
The Party of Lincoln has devolved into The Party of Trump.
“Politically the environment is so toxic, especially in our own party right now. You can fight your butt off and win this thing but are you going to happy? And the answer is probably not.”
“This is the direction that we’re going to go in for the next two years and potentially four, and its going to make Trump the center of fund-raising efforts and political outreach. That’s not something I’m going to be part of.”
As currently drawn, the 16th district is as convoluted as the districts Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Marcy Kaptur represent. The bulk of the district is actually in Wayne County and snakes its way up through Medina tipping out in Rocky River. Jim Renacci held the seat until he unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate and is now planing to primary Governor Mike DeWine.
The Congressional districts will be redrawn next year. Odds are against the new districts having balanced Republican/Democratic proportionality especially since the Republican-controlled Ohio General Assembly passed new Ohio House and Senate maps that remain gerrymandered.
While I hope candidates more qualified than Trump toady Max Miller enter the 16th district primary with Gonzalez now out, I’m pessimistic of that happening, just as Gonzalez is of Republicans in Congress removing the Trump “cancer on the party” in the next four years.
