Shonen Jump's Newest Hit Manga Stuns With My Hero Academia-Inspired Cover - Screen Rant

The newest collection of the up-and-coming Shonen Jump manga Me & Roboco pays a hilarious tribute to Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia Volume 1 cover. My Hero Academia is known for having references to western superhero comics as seen in All Might's similarities to Superman. However, a new hero is out to save the day in the most comedic way possible and she's a robot.

Shonen Jump's newest comedy manga Me & Roboco is created by Shuhei Miyazaki and follows the misadventures of grade-schooler Bondo and his robot maid Roboco. Making its debut in July 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump, the manga has since remained among the most popular of the magazine's ongoing series. Now on its fifth volume, many fans were delighted to find the cover of the forthcoming volume parodying My Hero Academia's first volume cover featuring All Might and Deku.

The Me & Roboco Vol. 5 cover was shared on Twitter from the Shonen Jump News - Unofficial account. The cover shows Roboco striking a mighty pose and a smile very similar to All Might's heroic pose as shown on the superhero manga's Volume 1 cover. The maid robot's uniform also utilizes the same matching color scheme as All Might's dark blue, red, and white hero costume. Bondo is in a smaller positioning on the manga cover and, like Midoriya, has the same hopeful smile and pose as the young hero. Both manga covers also feature a yellow background, and a crowd of supporting characters positioned in red behind the main characters.

Although only just a parody, the comparisons between the main characters of both series couldn't be any more befitting. Roboco's muscular build and overly zealous personality can be compared to that of All Might's heroic stature. She's usually put in crazy situations that require her robotic strength in order to keep Bondo and the other school children safe, which is normally where the comedy elements thrive. Just like All Might and Deku's chance encounter, Bondo and Roboco's friendship began under weird circumstances but eventually resulted in Roboco saving Bondo's life. Roboco does her best to assist Bondo in his daily life, which can also be said about All Might's mentorship role to Deku.

This isn't the first time the popular comedy manga has referenced another popular manga on its cover. Me & Roboco's previous volumes have all parodied popular Shonen Jump series like Doraemon, One Piece, The Promised Neverland, and Jujutsu Kaisen. The Me & Roboco manga pokes fun at all of its Shonen Jump colleagues and the classic tropes that come with the shonen genre, making this classic My Hero Academia-inspired cover all the more hilarious. Me & Roboco Vol. 5 will be released in Japan on Oct. 4, 2021.
