Frozen 2 will be getting a manga adaptation thanks to publisher Viz Media titled Disney Frozen 2: The Manga. The black-and-white story will continue the adventures of Elsa and the other main characters from Frozen. It will be a direct tie-in to the hit sequel, a self-discovery story about Queen Elsa.

The first Frozen film took place in the Kingdom of Arendelle and focused on the strained relationship between two sisters, Princess Elsa and Princess Anna. Elsa had been isolated for most of her life to avoid revealing her secret ice powers, the origins of which are further explored in Frozen 2. The first movie won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and is one of the highest grossing films of all time. It is widely remembered for its award-winning song "Let It Go." This will be the second project published between Viz Media and Disney after the release of the manga adaptation of Star Wars: The Legends of Luke Skywalker back on January 14, 2021.

Viz Media posted details on its website about Disney Frozen 2: The Manga, which will feature the same story as the second movie. The plot will revolve around Elsa as she looks for the origins of her powers. She travels with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven on her journey of self-discovery. The story has been said to closely resemble Frodo Baggins's journey in Lord of the Rings.

The young adult paperback will be 160 pages and is set to release on February 9, 2021. It will be illustrated by Arina Tanemura, who has been working in the manga industry since 1996. Some of her notable works, which also received anime adaptations, include Phantom Thief Jeanne and Full Moon. Phantom Thief Jeanne, a magical girl anime, has even been called better than Sailor Moon.

It's really no surprise that Frozen is getting an adaptation as the films have set numerous records for Disney. Frozen 2 was released earlier than anticipated after its theatrical run on Disney+ due to the pandemic and was the most streamed movie of 2020. How the manga will differ from the events presented in the Frozen 2 movie remains to be seen, but it would be nice if this tie-in added in some original scenes that couldn't be found in the movie, clarifying fans' theories about characters and scenes. Fans of Frozen can explore the sisters' sequel story from a new medium in Disney Frozen 2: The Manga this February.
