An ongoing manga called Dark Gathering stars a character who dislikes his own psychic powers like Mob from Mob Psycho 100 and who gets entangled in the life of a young girl trying to save her mother from evil spirits like Chihiro in Spirited Away.
In Mob Psycho 100, a boy nicknamed Mob wants to live a normal life, but the fact that he's an immensely powerful esper complicates the possibility of that wish ever coming to fruition. Another complicating factor: Mob keeps getting himself in situations with other psychically imbued beings that require the utilization of the very powers that make him anything but normal. Plus, he lives in perpetual fear of losing control, which he tries to remedy by ridding himself of all emotions.
Dark Gathering essentially puts another boy with a similar gift as Mob in unfortunate predicaments that require him to face the very things he's been trying to avoid his whole life. While not possessing actual psychic powers, Keitarou has a predisposition for attracting ghosts, a proclivity that could endanger the lives of his fellow humans. Like Mob who, to keep his power under control, attempts to stunt emotions that are otherwise normal in society, Keitarou actually shuts himself away from the whole of society for most of his life to ensure everyone's safety.
To help himself integrate back into society, Keitarou later becomes a tutor, but, by a strike of horrendous luck, gets assigned to a girl named Yayoi, an immensely powerful little girl who can not only hold her own against evil spirits, but is obsessed with pursuing all things supernatural on account of an evil spirit that spirited away her mother. Yayoi's hope is that she will eventually stumble upon her mother's supernatural captor, so every chance she gets, the little girl wanders to places that are rich in all things supernatural. The fact that spirits are naturally drawn to Keitarou makes her mission easier.
Yayoi's determination and odd predicament mirror Chihiro's from Spirited Away, whose parents are transformed into pigs after wandering into the spirit world. The 10-year-old girl spends the majority of the film running errands and problem-solving to save her parents. The main divergence between Yayoi and Chihiro, however, is that the latter is a normal albeit resourceful and headstrong child who finds herself in an otherworldly situation, while Yayoi is not only able to stand up and defeat evil spirits with various weapons on her own, but imprisons and even keeps them in check by trapping them in stuffed animals and choking them with string-like material. In the regard of insanely powerful little girls, Yayoi is almost like Kanna from Inuyasha and Hibana Daida from Deadman Wonderland. Due to Yayoi's odd and unsettling reticence, she most resembles Kanna in that regard, while Hibana's aptitude for slaughtering foes with amazing dexterity and strength makes her comparable to Yayoi.
Regardless, both protagonists from Dark Gathering and Mob Psycho 100 struggle with their supernatural abilities, which, much to their dismay, attract ghosts and espers, respectively. Dark Gathering adds an additional dynamic to the mix with a powerful little girl who is driven by a similar mission as Spirit Away's young female protagonist while possessing incredible abilities that correlate with other powerful children from Inuyasha and Deadman Wonderland. All of this, mixed with a combination of grotesque artwork aptly coupled with strangely appropriate humor, make Dark Gathering a compelling read for fans of each of these manga.
